NASSAU, BAHAMAS – “I’m amazed, I’m amazed that such (an empire) built up in the force over that period,” said former Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson who was weighing in on details of that U.S. Indictment saying it caught him by surprise.

Ferguson who is the current the Director of the National Intelligence Agency served as Commissioner between 2017 and 2020.

The indictment names Chief Superintendent of Police Elvis Curtis, who was officer-in-charge of the Airport Division, Sergeant Prince Symonette, who works with Curtis, and RBDF Chief Petty Officer Darrin Roker as conspirators who helped facilitate the transshipment of tons of cocaine from South America through The Bahamas and ultimately the United States.

He stressed that while serving, he had no knowledge of any inpropriaties during his time in office.

Meanwhile, former Commissioner of Police Paul Rolle said he was disappointed by the news, adding that he knew the officers.

In a national address Sunday, Police Commissioner Clayton Fernander revealed new initiatives to regain public confidence in the police force.

He also said he had already spoken to Commissioner Rolle  who served from March 2020 to July 2022 adding he intended to reach out to former Commissioner Ferguson, former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis, and former National Security Minister Marvin Dames.

Despite the dark cloud over the police force, Rolle said the organization will rebound.
