UNITED STATES – Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney has died at age 84, his family saying he passed Monday due to complications from pneumonia and heart disease.

Cheney served as one of the most powerful and polarizing vice presidents in U.S. history, helping lead the invasion of Iraq and shaping policy on terrorism, energy, and national security under President George W. Bush.

A survivor of multiple heart attacks and a heart transplant, Cheney was known for his secrecy, hard-liner views, and forceful role in the Bush administration.

President Bush called him a decent and honorable man and said his death is a loss to the nation. Cheney is survived by his wife and two daughters including Liz Cheney, a leading republican critic of President Donald Trump.
