NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A former youth pastor has been sentenced to eight years in prison for sexually abusing a minor.

Colton Albury, 33, wiped away tears as Senior Justice Bernard Turner delivered his sentencing judgment.

A jury on July 7, convicted Albury of two counts of indecent assault and two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse.

Albury, an orphan, met his victim’s family through a church outreach program.

He moved in with the family at age 16 and  lived with them for 18 months.

However, he betrayed the family’s trust by molesting their then 12-year-old daughter, who viewed him as a brother, in 2016 and in 2017 at age 13.

At the time, Albury was 28 and married with two children.

The court heard how Albury inappropriately touched the young girl on the pretext of tickling her.

He later had unlawful sexual intercourse with the minor by penetrating her with his fingers.

Turner sentenced Albury to four years for the indecent assault and eight years for unlawful sexual intercourse.

The sentences will run together and take effect from his conviction date.

Miranda Adderley represented Albury and Erica Duncombe-Ingraham was the prosecutor.
