NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A Jamaican babysitter is facing deportation after a six-year-old boy wandered from her home after being left alone.

Sophia Douglas, 53, pleaded guilty to a charge of cruelty to children when she appeared before Senior Magistrate Algernon Allen.

The charge stems from an incident that took place on March 15.

Douglas was supposed to be watching the six-year-old and two other children when she allegedly left them unattended at her Garden Hills home to go to the store.

The six-year-old told police that he decided to go home.

A woman saw him walking along Baillou Hill Road and gave him a ride.

Douglas has to pay a $3,000 fine to avoid spending six months in prison.

After paying the fine or serving her sentence, Douglas will be turned over to immigration for deportation as she has no legal status.
