UNITED STATES – Bahamian basketball star Jonquel Jones has added another milestone to her decorated career.

The New York Liberty center has been selected to the 2026 WNBA All-Star game, marking the sixth all-star selection of her career.

Jones was named among the league’s reserve players, as voted on by WNBA head coaches.

The honor comes during another outstanding season for the former WNBA finals MVP, who is averaging 15.2 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game while continuing to serve as one of the league’s premier two-way players.

Jones’ latest selection further cements her place as one of the greatest players in Bahamian basketball history, adding to a résumé that already includes a WNBA championship, finals MVP honors, the 2021 WNBA MVP award, and now six all-star appearances.

The Liberty are again a title contender, after winning the 2026 Commissioner’s Cup and currently lead the Eastern Conference standings.

King to Begin Pro Career in Germany

Another Bahamian basketball player has officially joined the professional ranks.

Former Murray State standout Frederick King has signed his first professional contract, agreeing to terms with MLP academics Heidelberg of Germany’s top professional league, the Basketball Bundesliga.

The signing comes on the heels of a breakout senior season, where King averaged 13.1 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game, while shooting nearly 65% from the field.

His outstanding campaign earned him Missouri Valley conference newcomer of the year, first-team all-conference honors, and a spot on the MVC all-defensive team.

The move to Germany gives the Bahamian big man an opportunity to begin his professional career in one of Europe’s most competitive basketball leagues, as he continues to develop his game at the next level.

Peace on the Streets Classic Celebrates Another Year

One of The Bahamas’ longest-running community basketball events is set to return next week.

The 31st annual Peace on Da Streets Basketball Classic will take place July 13th through the 19th, beginning at the Hope Center on Bahamas Games Boulevard before concluding with championship games and the popular family fun night at the Kendal G.L. Isaacs Gymnasium.

What started more than three decades ago as an eight-team tournament has grown into one of the Caribbean’s premier summer basketball events, now featuring six divisions with eight teams each.

This year also introduces a new constituency division, inspired by the competitive spirit of the country’s recent general elections.

Event organizer minister Carlos Reid said the tournament’s mission has always been to use basketball as a positive outlet for young people while helping to build safer communities through sport.

The week will once again culminate with family fun night, featuring the championship games, a slam dunk contest, three-point shootout, skills challenge, and thousands of dollars in cash and prizes for participants and fans.
