NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Widespread power outages across New Providence is sparking a sharp increase in demand for backup power.

“Well the calls are there…right now its kind of…I guess demanding for us to go ahead and keep up, we do a lot of quoting and we actually started selling units that come here, [that] we have it in transit. So before the units are down they’re sold, that’s how much in demand it is.”

Nairn says many are even turning to commercial banks to finance their purchase – a sign of just how urgent self‑reliance has become in the face of outages and storms.

He also warns that waiting only makes it more costly, and that planning ahead is key, especially as the hurricane season drives the spike.

Even when fuel prices increased recently, he says the demand for generators remained strong, highlighting just how important reliable backup power has become for many Bahamians.

As the hurricane season continues and power outages remain a concern, suppliers expect demand for generators to stay high, and their advice is simple – plan ahead, purchase early, and don’t wait until the next blackout or approaching storm to secure backup power.
