UNITED STATES – FBI investigators continue to search for the motive behind a 20-year-old Pennsylvania man’s attempted assassination of former president trump after conducting over 100 interviews, searching the suspect’s home and vehicle, and accessing his cellphone.

FBI and Department of Homeland security officials warned of potential retaliatory acts by domestic violent extremists.

The suspect, Thomas Matthew Crooks, had reportedly asked to borrow his father’s AR-15-style rifle, which he used in the attempt, and had previously purchased ammunition.

FBI Director Christopher Wray called the attempt “an attack on democracy.”

Homeland Security is investigating how Crooks obtained a clear shot at Trump.
