NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The UN gathered civil society leaders, government representatives, youth advocates, and regional stakeholders in recognition of International Human Rights Day, and some main human rights issues in the region, like inequality, climate justice, and democratic governance.

Michelle Brathwaite is the regional representative for the Office of The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights CARICOM Regional Office.

Dr. Gezel Farrington, Bahamas Ambassador at large for Human Rights, sharing the impact and leadership the country has shown in human rights efforts in the region.

The right to development is a fundamental human right and for Attorney General Ryan Pinder, K.C., he says it’s a priority in their efforts for climate justice.

He also adds that defending human rights is a collective responsibility.
