FREEPORT, BAHAMAS – This week some 20 long term employees were laid off from the Freeport Container Port, but that decision was quickly reversed following intervention from the nation’s leader.

Before the terminations were reversed, Chairman of the Progressive Liberal Party Fred Mitchell called a press conference on Grand Bahama to address the issue.

Mitchell says it was the governments view that FCP was their partner in the long term development of Freeport.

Those layoffs sparking questions about how many work permits can industrial companies apply for?

The PLP chairman says that all depends on what is included in the heads of agreement.
