NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Prime Minister Philip Davis laid out a three-staged approach to curbing rising crime trends – clear, hold and build.

The prime minister says the plan is to clear communities of gangs, increase police presence and invest in those communities.

He says they’re going on the offensive.

The prime minister pulled no punches saying no mercy will be shown to those who sow no mercy to others.

The national address comes as the country recorded 11 murders in 14 days.

But after clearing neighborhoods of gangs, Davis says law enforcement officers will remain in the areas.

The last step in the plan is to build.

Some of the methods are not new to policing. Police Commissioner Clayton Fernander has touted saturation patrols as a significant deterrent to criminals.

Davis also promised more CCTV in hotspot areas and anti-gang laws.

Meanwhile, the prime minister warned residents about being prepared for more police presence that may impact their day-to-day lives.
