NASSAU, BAHAMAS – You may want to brush up on your knowledge of the rules of the road as police will be clamping down on traffic violations, particularly as it relates to head lights and brake lights.

Unique vehicles sporting colorful or flashing lights are popping up on roadways across the island. But, while some motorists are seeking to express themselves through their vehicles, it’s important to know that it could result in a fine.

Officer in Charge of the Traffic Division, Shief Supt. David Lockhart noting that the regulation states that headlights are to be white or amber.

He adds that some persons have added red and blue flashing lights as well, a combination reserved for emergency vehicles. Now, if you have not applied and been approved for these type of lights, that too is an offence.

Your rear lights, if modified incorrectly could also be an issue.

Chief Supt. Lockhart says focus will be on what he calls “tractor trailer heads” on vehicles.

Now, if your vehicle has been deemed as defective for any of these violations, you could earn a fine of $100. If you are considered a repeat offender, Chief Supt. says you will be taken before the courts for stiffer penalties.
