“Ridgeland Will Be the Model Community in The Bahamas”

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Residents in the Ridgeland Community will see improvements in their community, including more police on the ground and area clean-ups.

The charge is being led by that area’s neighborhood watch committee.

The organization bringing together stakeholders this morning for a very special community initiative.

Friday morning was just the start of a joint effort between government and non-profit organizations to revitalize the Ridgeland area.

Stakeholders including the Royal Bahamas Police, Department of Environmental Health, and the Kiwanis Club of Over the Hill.

It’s an effort that was started a few years back, but was put on hold because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Now that things are back to normal, chairperson for the Ridgeland Neighborhood Watch Association Shelly Lewis, says her along with others who’ve lived In the community for years, she want to improve the lives of their neighbors.

“We’re all out here today to launch this initiative and make sure we make Ridgeland a model community for the entire Bahamas, because what we’re gonna do, we’re gonna cleanup, we’re gonna landscape, we’re gonna put up signage, a welcome sign, and there are some residents who are unable to do this work so what we’re gonna do we gonna assist those residents in terms of painting their homes, doing some minor structural work and making sure that the frontal areas of their homes are landscaped and cared for.”

The Department of Environmental Health was also there, to say their initial assessments that highlighted issues that need to be addressed.

For now the team says they want to help in any way they could, and a free breakfast giveaway Friday morning, according to officer in charge of the south central division, Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings, the help matters.
