NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Sailing is set to be named the national sport of the country as we approach our 50th anniversary of Independence. This past week, a full length documentary on the history of Sloop Sailing was officially released to the public. 

“See How The Main Sail Sets” is a full length documentary showcasing the unique aspects of Sloop Sailing as well as highlighting iconic sailors and legendary boatbuilders. 

Family Island Affairs Minister, Clay Sweeting, sharing the importance of the documentary as the country prepared to celebrate 50 years of independence. 

Executive Producer, Fred Mullings, says the documentary tells the story of Regatta but from the vantage point of the sailors. and that he wanted to record the History of Regatta, reflect on its elevation and the development of Family Islands. 

Co-Executive Producer, Danny Strachan, noting that this is the first documentary produced that captures the History of Sloop Sailing from 1954 to present. He says the goal is to have the film in the international market but also, in local schools. 

Director Charlie Bahama says he became so engulfed in the film that he actually dreamt about it quite often. He says his goal was to capture the history, but keep it entertaining.
