NASSAU, BAHAMAS – One hundred and eighty homes have already been repaired under the Small Homes Repair Program, according to State Minister responsible Lisa Rahming, who said the goal is to repair 1000 homes.

Rahming says $3 million was allocated for the program, and 800 homeowners have already applied for assistance.

She said the immediate focus though will be on assisting the elderly, the disabled, and single-family homes.

More than 500 quotes from contractors have been filed with the ministry, and contractors will have to show proof of experience and provide work references.

Applicants will have to show proof of property ownership, and proof of citizenship and must fall within the economic status requirements of the program.
