CARIFTA Swim Championships

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The preliminary rounds of the CARIFTA Swim Championships were held earlier today. Swimmers with the fastest times are headed to the finals.

Among them were Leyla Lewis and William Farrington.

The opening ceremony for the 2023 CARIFTA aquatics meet was last night.

The 36th edition of the CARIFTA Aquatics Championships were officially opened with the traditional march.

Athletes from 21 countries entered the city center proceeded by one of Curaçao’s drum bands.

Officially opening the games was Curacao’s Minister of Education, Science, Sports and Culture Sitree Van Heydoorn.

Also bringing remarks at the opening was President of Curacao’s Aquatic Association Mrs. Nercisio.

Our very own State Minister for Education Zane Lightbourne also brought remarks but not to be outdone was the Cayman Islands’ Minister of Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage Bernie Bush.

The championships got underway at the Enith Brigitha Pool in Willemsted today and will continue through until next week.

2023 CARIFTA Track and Field Championships.

In New Providence, teams are making final preparations for the 2023 CARIFTA Track and Field Championships.

Teams from across the Caribbean and team Bahamas filed into the Thomas A. Robinson Stadium this morning to tighten-up their game plans as they prepare for the 50th CARIFTA games this weekend.

The athletes Our News spoke to say they are ready to give the games their best shot and compete at the highest level.

Coaches also shared that they’re happy The Bahamas is hosting this year.
