Team Bahamas Hosts Training Camp at UM

UNITED STATES – The Bahamas Senior Men’s National Basketball Team has officially begun its preparation for the FIBA World Cup 2027 pre-qualifiers.

A 20-man training camp was held this week at the University of Miami, bringing together a unique mix of NBA talent, seasoned professionals, collegiate standouts, and the country’s next generation of players.

The camp featured NBA veterans Buddy Hield, Eric Gordon, and VJ Edgecombe, along with several professional players competing overseas, recent college standouts, and high school prospects.

Veteran forward Kino Burrows was the oldest player in camp, while 15-year-old phenom Javez Coleby was the youngest invitee, highlighting the program’s commitment to both experience and player development.

Team Bahamas will open its pre-qualifying campaign against Jamaica on July 3rd before facing Puerto Rico on July 6th, with both games carrying significant implications in the road to the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Swimming

The Mako Aquatics Swim Club continues to set the standard in Bahamian swimming.

Mako captured its eighth consecutive national title at the 2026 Bahamas Aquatics National Swimming Championships, which concluded Sunday at the Betty Kelly-Kenning National Swim Complex.

The defending champions dominated the four-day meet, finishing with 2,259 points and an impressive 259 medals, including 108 gold.

Blue Waves finished second with 857 and a half points, while Alpha Aquatics rounded out the top three with 680 points.

Olympian Lamar Taylor led the way for Mako, winning five individual events, while young standout Nya Ferguson set multiple national records in the girls eight-and-under division.

Blue Waves’ Christon Joseph continued his outstanding season with seven gold medals and five national records, while Alpha Aquatics’ Isabella Cuccurullo added seven individual gold medals of her own.

With the national championships now complete, attention turns to the selection of Team Bahamas for next month’s Goodwill Swimming Championships in Trinidad and Tobago.
