NASSAU, BAHAMAS – “Until we fix Haiti, this will continue,” according to Prime Minister Philip Davis, speaking on the issue of illegal migration from Haiti to The Bahamas.

The Prime Minister just returned from an international meeting, where he says he believes the international community has “heard our cry.”

More than 400 migrants were apprehended in The Bahamas between Tuesday and Wednesday. PM Davis says the influx of migrants will not stop until the humanitarian crisis in Haiti is fixed.

“People are desperate,” he added.

The PM says new policy of the United States government, which essentially broadened protection for certain Haitian immigrants, allows them to live and work in the US without fear of deportation.

Davis contends that Haitian migrants who have been apprehended recently are ultimately trying to make it to the US, something he says he spoke to US Vice President Kamala Harris about, during their recent meeting.
