12 Foreign Nationals Convicted in the Magistrate’s Court

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Eleven Haitians and one Jamaican were arraigned in the Magistrate’s Court on various immigration offences on Tuesday.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Eleven Haitians and one Jamaican were arraigned in the Magistrate’s Court on various immigration offenses on Tuesday.

Four of the Haitian nationals and the Jamaican were charged with overstaying. 

All pled guilty before Magistrate Algernon Allen Jr. and were subsequently fined $1,000 or in default of payment or will serve six months at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDOCS).

Additionally, five Haitians were charged with illegal landing.

They all pled guilty and were warned and discharged, with one receiving a fine of $300, and in default of payment ordered to serve six months at BDOCS.

The other two Haitians pled guilty to knowingly attempting to mislead an immigration officer and were subsequently fined $3,000 and $2,500 respectively, or in default of payment, serve one year at BDOCS.

Upon payment of fines, completion of sentences, and discharge all persons were ordered to be turned over to the Department of Immigration for deportation.
