NASSAU, BAHAMAS – In an ongoing effort to breathe new life into Nassau’s iconic downtown area, consultant Anthony Bostwick is working closely with the Ministry of Tourism, Investments, and Aviation to restore the heart of the city to its former glory. Tasked with revitalizing the area, Bostwick says that the vision is already taking shape, with visible changes occurring over the past year.
Bostwick highlights the removal of derelict buildings, a key aspect of the revitalization. These old structures are being cleared to make room for new development. The process includes adding green spaces and creating areas where people can come together to enjoy the downtown experience, particularly on weekends.
“We want to create not only the parks but also incubation centers on the eastern side of Bay Street, as well as food trucks and art districts,” Bostwick says. These initiatives aim to revitalize the area and attract both locals and visitors, contributing to a more vibrant downtown Nassau.
According to Bostwick, there’s been a significant increase in the number of visitors to Nassau, with over 11 million arrivals reported by the Ministry of Tourism. This surge in tourism makes the ongoing revitalization efforts even more crucial to keep Nassau competitive as a top destination for travelers.
As part of the plan, Bostwick’s team is also focusing on encouraging traffic to move east along Bay Street, which will help balance the flow of visitors and make the area more accessible. He believes these changes will not only enhance the visitor experience but also give Bahamians a reason to rediscover their own backyard.
With these strategic efforts in motion, Bostwick is optimistic about the future of downtown Nassau, and the community is beginning to see the first fruits of these revitalization efforts. As the project progresses, Nassau’s downtown will be transformed into a more dynamic, sustainable, and exciting space for all to enjoy.
