University Of The Bahamas Names American Educator As Next President

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – After an extensive search, the University of The Bahamas has named it’s new president, American educator Dr. Robert Blaine III is set to take over the university’s top post this summer.

During a press conference today, UB officials described him as a seasoned education and innovator who brings decades of experience in academic administration, research development, and digital learning.

The announcement was made at a special press conference on the university campus by board of trustees Chair Allyson Maynard KC.

Dr. Blaine is currently a senior executive at the National League of Cities.

Ub officials say he brings a wealth of experience in academic leadership, curriculum innovation, and institutional growth.

His appointment marks a pivotal moment for UB as it continues its push for national and international accreditation, expands its research capabilities, and positions itself as a leading institution in the region.

The search process, which began in June 2024, attracted over 90 candidates locally and around the world.

The presidential search committee was set up to help steer the search.

Dr. Blaine will be the university’s fourth president since 2014.

But there’s been backlash as some are questioning why a Bahamian was not chosen for the top post.

In response Maynard-Gibson said, “ The process was very inclusive, we’re very happy to recognize that the finalists were all highly qualified people and that the finalists also included a Bahamian.”
