Freeport Expo Expands Reach Across the Islands

GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – The upcoming Freeport Expo is now in its second year, it’s a platform designed not just for local entrepreneurs, but for Bahamian businesses from across the country, hoping to tap into the growing tourism opportunities in Grand Bahama.

For the Grand Bahama Port Authority, the vision is broader than just one island.

The goal is to turn Freeport Business Expo into a national launchpad which quality assurance and special projects manager Glendia Sweeting says it will connect Bahamian entrepreneurs with global tourism providers and opportunities with the potential for big economic impact.

That spirit of collaboration led the GBPA team to the IAAPA Expo in Florida, one of the world’s largest gatherings of tourism and amusement operators.

They handpicked vendors whose offerings could help reimagine the Bahamian tourism experience.

And Sweeting says some of those connections have paid off as several local entrepreneurs positioned themselves for contracts tied to the highly anticipated Celebration Key, set to open in July.

From Nassau to North Eleuthera and Abaco to Exuma, Sweeting says it’s more than a trade show it’s a national call to action.
