Resident: “The Property Could Be Destroyed, But We Can’t Get Our Lives Back”

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – While many of you were on your way to work or school Monday morning, residents who were in the path of Friday’s wild weather, spent the morning in recovery-mode.

When I revisted the area Monday morning, it was a stark difference from what i witnessed Friday night, the roads are were pretty much cleared of debris, and utility poles were repaired. 

But some residents were still dealing with the aftermath like Betty Dames, who has owned and operated this corner shop for 25 years.

The storm’s strong winds damaged the roof of her business and a fallen tree broke her water pump and several windows.

But what was it like to experience being in the middle of a microburst?

Residents told me they heard loud rushing wind, the sounds eerily similar to explosions as lightening violently flashed, illuminating the night sky.

Inspector Edgecombe was at work when the storm took aim at his home.

He says he’s grateful for his community that pulled together to support him.

This retiree says he was in the process of renovating, the wild weather set his family’s plans back.
