U.S. Air Traffic Control Staffing Hit For Second Day, Delaying Flights

UNITED STATES – Air travel chaos in the United States, with flight delays stacking up for a second straight day, as the government shutdown hits day seven.

The Federal Aviation Administration says air traffic control staffing issues are impacting airports from Newark to Phoenix, Denver, Las Vegas, and Burbank.

More than four thousand flights were delayed on Monday alone.

On Tuesday, Nashville announced it would curtail operations due to severe shortages, handing control to Memphis.

Chicago O’Hare also saw more than five hundred delays.

The FAA is short more than 3,000 controllers nationwide,  and many have been working six-day weeks even before the shutdown. officials warn some are now calling out sick, as controllers and TSA staff work without pay.
