NASSUA, BAHAMAS – The death of well-known defense attorney Romona Farquharson-Seymour yesterday came as a shock to many.

A general practice attorney for more than 20 years, she established herself in the local legal profession as one of the more savvy attorneys in the field.

But for her pastor, the Rev. Heuter Rolle, she will be remembered best as a faithful member. He says he got the unfortunate call after service on Sunday.

“Romona’s husband Calvin called our church administrator and advised that he was on his way to the hospital with her, that she was unresponsive. Never in my wildest dreams that when I went up there, I would’ve gotten news of her passing. It’s a real shocker.”

He says he saw her days before she passed.

“Romona and her husband, Calvin, were here just on Thursday to do some stuff, and I was in my office and I went out and hailed her. Then we spoke and it didn’t seem as if anything was untoward healthwise with her.”

Farquharson-Seymour was called to the Bar in 2001 and established herself taking on many high-profile cases and clients, including Long Island Member of Parliament Adrian Gibson and former Prison Commissioner Charles Murphy.

Prime Minister Philip Davis released a statement describing her as a hard worker who was sharp in her ability.

Free National Movement Leader Michael Pintard also reacted to her death, describing her as a fearless advocate.

“We watched her from matriculation, primary school and high school, and then her mom and they got off after university in London to study law.”

But for Rolle, her service to her church was even greater.

“Romona had these two girls. They are a part of our Destined Dance Ministry as a ministry for the children, and as you would’ve mentioned, she is here on Saturdays with them for rehearsals.”

“We help some of our at-risk boys and girls for our Christmas giveaway. Romona has always supported that for many, many years.”

“Helping to raise and do whatever we can for these two beautiful girls that would’ve been left without a mother, I believe that added to the grief.”
