NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man has admitted to charges of murder and rape after he killed a 72-year-old woman in her Ross Corner home.

It’s a story that gripped headlines back in November 2024.

Twenty-six-year-old Jayvon Forbes admitted to the charges stemming from the murder of Vernanchia Butler when he appeared before Justice Renae McKay.

Butler was killed after Forbes broke into her home on Ross Corner before 3 a.m. on November 23.

At the time police said the killer entered her home through a front room window.

Police also explained they autopsy also revealed she suffered internal injuries. 

She was strangled and sexually assaulted by Forbes who attacked her after she returned home from a birthday party.

Forbes returns to court for sentencing in May.
