B.U.T. President: That’s Good for Them, but We’re Standing Firm

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The most recent budget presentation includes the government’s promise for salary increases for teachers with the Bahamas Educators, Counselors, and Allied Workers Union (BECAWU). It’s a 5 year agreement starting July 1st. However, there was no mention of increases for the union covering the majority of the teachers – the Bahamas Union of Teachers (B.U.T.).

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The most recent budget presentation includes the government’s promise for salary increases for teachers with the Bahamas Educators, Counselors, and Allied Workers Union (BECAWU). It’s a 5 year agreement starting July 1st.

However, there was no mention of increases for the union covering the majority of the teachers – the Bahamas Union of Teachers (B.U.T.).

The union’s gripe with government stalled industrial negotiations, which have dragged on since October.

From then to now, B.U.T. President, Belinda Wilson has not been shy in airing her grievances that has left her and the hundreds of members feeling frustrated with the back and forth.
