Stores Prepare for 2026 Back-to-School Vat Holiday

NASSAU , BAHAMAS – With just weeks to go before the new school year, shoppers are expected to fill stores for the VAT-free tax holiday, which kicks off on Saturday, August 8 and ends on Saturday, September 5, giving families a chance to save on school essentials.

At Janae’s Uniform Center, Managing Director Martha Wallace says staff is already making last-minute adjustments to ensure customers can take full advantage of the tax break.

“Well, first of all, tonight we will work very late in programming our system to make sure that those persons coming in to get the savings that is VAT-free.”

The store has been preparing for weeks, ensuring shelves are fully stocked and customers will have plenty of options during what is expected to be one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year.

“We’re geared up for it. We have lots of inventory just awaiting their arrival.”

The store has also extended its sale to assist customers during the VAT-free period.

Beyond the sales, the company says this year’s back-to-school season has also created opportunities for young Bahamians to help meet the increased demand while gaining valuable work experience.
