Commodore Insists RBDF Did Do Enough in Plane Crash Search and Rescue

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Royal Bahamas Defence Force commodore is hitting back at criticism that the RBDF didn’t respond in time to Monday’s deadly plane crash that claimed the lives of four Americans.

The plane carrying the family went down in waters off Andros, killing two grandparents and their grandchildren, sending shockwaves throughout the community.

Despite claims from the family of the victims that there wasn’t sufficient help from Bahamian authorities, the commodore tells our Joshua Williams they were in it from the moment they were called.

The plane, a Piper PA-34, left Great Harbour Cay in the Berry Islands en route to Miami when it disappeared from radar around 10AM.

Before the family found the bodies of their loved ones, they put together their own search and rescue party early Tuesday morning, accusing Bahamian authorities of not doing enough.

“…Our aircraft got within in five nautical miles where the aircraft was said to have gone down, because of thunderstorm and lightning in the area they had to retreat and return back to base , our aircraft, a P.68, was unable to fly in that type of weather.”

Moxey even added that they were out the very next day.

However, the claim seems to be supported by open source flight tracking data, showing an aircraft belonging to the RBDF, taking several flights to the area, even flying as far as Bimini.

It was later on Tuesday when family members recovered the remains of their loved ones after launching a private search party.

Once again, Moxey insists that even with this they lent a helping hand.
