Trainee Corrections Officer Avoids Jail Time By Pleading Guilty To Drug Possession

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 23-year-old trainee corrections officer who was caught red-handed trying to smuggle marijuana to an inmate has avoided spending six months in prison by paying a $4,500 fine.

Darius Brown pleaded guilty to drug possession with intent to supply and drug possession charges at his arraignment before Senior Magistrate Raquel Whymms.

Brown was arrested when he reported for duty at the Bahamas Department of Corrections after his superior smelled drugs.

Officers found 14.1 ounces of marijuana hidden inside Brown’s work boots and another 5.8 ounces of marijuana inside his car.

The drugs had a total street value of more than $2,900.
