NASSAU, THE BAHAMAS – There are different factors or reasons that strengthens binds between countries and for world superpowers like China, it’s been health care, agriculture and trade.

And as both countries seek to deepen that relationship, our Joshua Williams reviews the contributions our friends in China have made to the health care system here in The Bahamas.

The Bahamas and China have maintained a mutual friendship for years and both countries have worked closely when it comes to infrastructure, and trade.

As we celebrate three decades of friendly relationships, the Chinese ambassador, says those years of partnership are a testament to all the work both countries have accomplished together.

“The Bahamas is a valuable partner of China in the Caribbean in recent years and the strategic guidance of our leaders. China Bahamas relations have gained great momentum political trust has deepen exchanges, have grown and practical corporation has expanded from infrastructure and agriculture technology to education, culture, health, trade, and investment.”

But it’s perhaps health care that’s linked both countries more intimately recently.

Earlier this week, the embassy announcing the funding of 22 Bahamain health care professionals to travel to china to participate in seminars.

And of course, their’s the funding of the brand new specialty hospital in the capital, a project, officials insist is still a go.

“It is a flagship infrastructure project that will greatly improve healthcare in the Bahamas”

The Chinese also instrumental in the cataract eye surgery project, giving over 200 Bahamians “life changing” operations.

And for newly minted Public Hospitals Authority Managing Director, Charles Sealy, it’s these projects and more that make the relationship between both countries vital.

“These initiatives are the reminders that meaningful international partnership is not simply a matter of agreement between governments is measured in lives and institution and growth for the future”
