UNITED STATES – Prince Strachan went into the last drive of West Virginia’s 45-42 win over the Cincinnati Bearcats with only one catch for 4 yards.

By the drive’s conclusion, he was the hero of the game.

Tied at 42, on 3rd and 9 with his feet in his own end zone, quarterback Mike Hawkins said, “Forget it, Prince is out there somewhere,” and let one rip down the sideline to Prince on a go route for 41 yards.

Two plays later, Hawkins hit the wideout from Freeport again, this time on a post, and he proceeded to drag half of Cincinnati’s defense 25 yards, right down to the bearcats’ 18-yard line to set up Jack Cassidy’s game-winning 35-yard field goal with the clock expiring for the Mountaineers’ first conference win.

Cue country roads’ “Take me home, to the place I belong.”

This game was another wild big 12 shootout featuring over 1200 total yards of offense between the two teams.

Hawkins put up video game numbers himself, throwing for a career-high 464 yards and 3 touchdowns and running for 77 yards and two more.

DJ Epps caught 8 catches for 163 yards to lead West Virginia, and Cincinnati quarterback JC French IV also had a career day, throwing for a personal best of 389 yards and 3 touchdowns.

But at the end of the day, when it was winning time, the kid from Freeport came through in the clutch to get the win.

Baseball

Sebastian Walcott is hitting the lid off the ball in the desert.

Last night, he had a double and 2 rbi to help the Tuscon Saguaros beat the Glendale Desert Dogs 10-0.

And on Friday night, he went 2-for-5 with a grand slam and a single to help the Saguaros beat the Mesa Solar Sox 12-5.

Overall, he’s hitting .292 with 11 rbi, good for 2nd in the league, and a .875 ops.

Arizona Fall League is a 6-team offseason league where teams send their top prospects to make sure that they get tough reps against their peers before they send them up to the majors.

Most of your favorite players went there as minor league prospects, and here’s a fun fact: Michael Jordan played really well in the fall league following his stint in the minors, so well that the White Sox thought he could be a legitimate major leaguer.

The Texas Rangers have been doing everything they can to get Walcott ready after he missed about 80 games due to elbow surgery.

When he did come back, however, he looked like a future all-star, hitting 325 with a .991 ops and 10 home runs in only 41 games.

Now that he’s shown what he can do, they’re trying to get him as many reps as possible because his time may come in 2027.
