NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The government makes a significant investment into a program targeted at the nation’s youth. The Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture announcing the youth guard program saying it is aimed at preparing young people to assist in natural disasters.

Youth, Sports and Culture Minister Mario Bowleg says $1.5 million have been invested into the program he says is designed to teach young people the skills needed to assist during a disaster or an emergency.

Bowleg adding The Bahamas National Youth guard program is an investment in the country’s youth.

The program is focused on equipping young people from all islands with the skills needed to assist in offering support to public and private agencies during disasters.

The program targets young adults from 18 to 25. The four-phased program includes a 27-month cycle.

Bowleg explains the phases, adding that participants will be paid.
