NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Court of Appeal has upheld the convictions and sentences of a man who molested and indecently assaulted his six-year-old niece.

The convict’s name has been withheld to conceal the identity of his underage victim.

The offenses were committed in December 2019 when the girl visited her 39-year-old uncle’s house.

The matter was reported to the police in 2020 after the girl revealed that her uncle had touched her privates in response to questions from her mother.

When interrogated by the police, the man denied having sex with the child. However, he admitted to touching her inappropriately and masturbating.

When asked why he did it, the man suggested that someone had put obeah on the family.

The man was sentenced to nine years for incest and three years for indecent assault.

The sentences will be served at the same time.
