INDONESIA – Fifty-six people are dead and as many as many 700 are still missing following an earthquake on the Indonesian Island of Java.

The quake with a magnitude of 5.6 struck a densely populated area prone to landslides with poorly built homes.

Scores of people were rushed to hospital with many treated outside.

Rescuers are working day and night to try and get to those thought to be trapped in collapsed buildings.

The death toll and number of injuries are like to rise.
