Works Official Details Fishing Hole Road Issues

GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Following months of complaints and accidents, the Ministry of Works is now stepping in to make the necessary repairs.

On Monday, work will begin.

David Cox, engineer for the Family Islands, revealing that after hurricane Dorian the asphalt on the causeway was washed off.

The entire causeway was then repaved with concrete as he says it is more resilient, but things took an unfortunate turn.

He says because industrial vehicles use the causeway frequently, that can cause the surface to deteriorate quickly.

But the question has been asked – why did it take so long for the Ministry of Works to take action on the major thoroughfare?

Cox says their investigation was complete from mid-January.

The causeway was recently reopened by Chief Councillor for the West Grand Bahama District George “Jimmy” Smith, following a car accident on the temporary service road.

Because of this recent move by the Chief Councillor, Cox says the Ministry of Works rethought its plans, and the service road will now be repaired first before the causeway.
