NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Senators debating and passing the Central Bank of The Bahamas Amendment Bill 2023.

The bill was debated and passed in the House of Assembly on Monday evening.

Leader of Government Business in the Senate Michael Halkitis says it addresses three issues including handling of special drawing rights distributed by the International Monetary Fund.

The bill seeks to make modifications to section 17, creating a new section 17 a that empowers the minister to access, utilize or convert special drawing rights allocated by the International Monetary Fund, for the purpose of reducing its foreign currency debt obligations and to manage its foreign currency debt operations.

The opposition also shared their views on the bil.
