New Made Men Bar Raid

April 28th, 2020 – Customs officers conducted a raid at the New Made Men Bar on Faith Avenue, claiming the business had not provided proof of customs payments.

On April 20, Ash was convicted of operating the bar in defiance of an emergency order that closed all non-essential businesses.

He pleaded guilty to violating the national curfew and operating a non-essential business and paid a $7,000 fine to avoid spending one year in prison.

Police arrested and charged Ash after a video went viral of him selling alcoholic beverages from the bar as members of his security detail stood by. At the time, officers in the video were placed on administrative leave, pending an investigation into misconduct.

Ash later sued the comptroller of customs over the seizure of liquor from his bar. The application was held in closed court.

Former House Speaker Halson Moultrie

Then in 2021 – then House Speaker Halson Moultrie abruptly adjourned proceedings of the House of Assembly accusing the executive at the time of disrespecting his authority in Parliament. Before adjourning, Moultrie declared that he was fully prepared to go to war with the Minnis administration.

The dust up between the speaker and his Free National Movement government came after measures were not taken to ensure the safety of parliamentary staff and others, after the house clerk tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Moultrie said the staff members were called into work despite his recommendations that they quarantine.
