Peru Temporarily Extradites Killer
PERU – A convicted killer imprisoned in Peru will be handed over to U.S. authorities to face extortion and fraud charges there stemming from the unsolved 2005 disappearance and presumed murder of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway.
PERU – A convicted killer imprisoned in Peru will be handed over to U.S. authorities to face extortion and fraud charges there stemming from the unsolved 2005 disappearance and presumed murder of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway.
The 18-year-old suburban Birmingham resident vanished during a high school graduation trip to the Caribbean island of Aruba in May 2005.
Joran van der Sloot, a Dutch national from Aruba, was arrested in the Holloway disappearance but never charged.
Van der Sloot is serving a 28-year prison in Peru after he confessed to strangling, beating and suffocating a 21-year-old Peruvian business student Stephany Flores.
Van der Sloot was expected to return to Peru to finish his sentence after his U.S. trial.
