For over a month wildfires have been burning across Canada, causing smoke to spread across the country and into parts of the northern United States.

We spoke to a Bahamian student in Canada who described the surprising conditions he experienced at the beginning of his day.

While the fires rage in Canada, it parts of America that are feeling the brunt of the hazardous conditions.

In New York particularly, millions of residents are under air quality alerts many of which are in the unhealthy zone on the air quality index.

One resident says he’s not worried about the smoke and is encouraged by the fearless spirit of New Yorkers around him.
