One Year On: Still No National Dementia Plan

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – When we spoke to the Bahamas Alzheimer’s Association last year, they were highlighting the urgent need for a National Dementia Plan in light of the shocking forecast that The Bahamas could see dementia cases rise by over 200 percent by 2050.

Now, a year later, there’s still no national dementia plan in place. President of the Bahamas Alzheimers’s Association, Wendyi Poitier-Albury tells us.

And the association president says there’s an at-risk demographic that many don’t think of.

Forty percent of those forecasted cases could be delayed or potentially prevented altogether.

One thing the association is also working to encourage is normalizing starting dementia screening at an earlier age.
