NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Executive Director of The Bahamas Crisis Centre Dr. Sandra Dean-Patterson is continuing the call for the criminalization of marital rape.

Her comments comes days after Prime Minister Philip Davis insisted rape shouldn’t be categorized, saying that “rape is rape”.

In 2022 the government drafted a bill that would criminalize marital rape. It was slated to be tabled in parliament by the end of 2023, however parliament prorogued.

The Protection Against Violence Bill was later passed. But for the crisis center, it is not enough.
