CROOKED ISLAND – Our News to the Island series takes us to the heart of Crooked Island this week, where Our News anchor Kendeno Knowles recently encountered some truly remarkable residents embodying the island’s spirit.

Among them, a native son who has recently reconnected with his roots. Raised amidst the island’s rich culture, his bond with Crooked Island is unwavering.

And now he’s on a mission to inspire others to return home.

David Ferguson and his wife Barbara are the proud owners of Nature’s Delight Lodge and Restaurant in Colonel Hill, Crooked Island.

It’s where we had the pleasure of enjoying a brief lunch after leaving Major’s Cay, before continuing our journey, expertly guided by Marcia Gibson, all the way to Pitts town.

But before reaching our destination, we learned the inspiring story of David and Barbara. Since 1997, while still residing in New Providence, they began developing the land where their restaurant now stands. And finally, in December 2020, they moved to Crooked Island and brought their dream of nature’s way to life.

David’s commitment to his Crooked Island extends beyond his business. He was chosen as Chief Councillor for the district, a role that allows him to focus on the needs of his beloved island while fostering community involvement.

His service has revealed many opportunities for growth and development.

While bonefishing remains the primary source of income, David sees a need for skilled workers in both basic and advanced infrastructure.

And this is why he’s passionately encouraging natives to return and contribute to the island’s future.

And David hopes his journey back home will reach and inspire others to follow suit.
