GUYANA – Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) recently performed its first pediatric liver resection on an 18-month-old girl with a rare liver cancer. GPHC announced on Friday the surgery was a success.

Led by Dr. Marisa Seepersaud, the team initiated treatment with chemotherapy, shrinking the tumor by 50%.

The nine-hour surgery was a landmark achievement.

Doctors say the baby is recovering well and is expected to regain normal liver function.
