Royals at Montagu Regatta

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Rain or shine, the show must go on. Despite intermittent heavy rain this afternoon, the cultural show went on at Montagu Beach.

Rain could not stop the Platinum Jubilee Regatta Friday afternoon.

The Bahamas All-Star Marching Band put on a show as spectators awaited the arrival of the Duke and Dutchess.

Vendors lined the shores on Montagu Beach, selling traditional Bahamian food.

Shortly after 2 pm, the liquid sunshine held up briefly, just in time for the Royals’ arrival.

They chatted with vendors and got up close and personal with some fresh local catch.

Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper, says he believes the entire visit presents an opportunity to showcase the art, culture, and spirit of the Bahamian people.

The Royals then set off on the Royal Bahamas Defense Force (RBDF) boat.

Minister of Agriculture, Clay Sweeting, says today was very exciting, as the ministry gets ready to bring back regattas and homecomings across the country.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Mario Bowleg, expressed his pride in the culture department and the newly formed cultural commission.

Despite the advice of the agriculture minister, it has been unofficially determined that the Duke won the sailing race on sloop “Ants Nest 2.”
