UNITED STATES – U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday emphasized that achieving a ceasefire in Gaza remains crucial, despite the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran on Wednesday.

Blinken, who spoke during a visit to Singapore as part of an asian tour, avoided speculating on how Haniyeh’s death might impact the ceasefire efforts.

The assassination comes as Israel’s Gaza campaign enters its 10th month, with ongoing ceasefire talks brokered by Egypt and Qatar showing little progress.
