GB Power Company Addresses Persistent Power Issues

GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Consecutive days of outages on top of an ongoing heat index advisories from the Bahamas Department of Meteorology have left many Grand Bahamians deeply frustrated with the island’s only power supplier.

The Grand Bahama Power Company’s social media pages peppered with comments from dissatisfied customers.

On Friday morning, Director of Asset Integrity Arlete Thomson, explaining what’s led to the recent outages.

This customer asked if outages are occurring disproportionately in certain areas.

The frequent outages come amidst deliberation on a requested base rate hike by the monopolized power giant, the details of the application will be made public on or before September 15th according to their regulator, the Grand Bahama Port Authority.

GBPC representatives did not address that requested base rate increase Friday morning.

Meantime, Thompson says they’re relying on temporary measures – hoping to fill the gaps.
