NASSAU, BAHAMAS – As the sailing races of the day wrapped up at the Exuma Regatta, cultural performances and entertainment started with a bang as crowds gathered at the Regatta site. Our Berthony McDermott is in Exuma.

The weather may have posed a challenge for the traditional sloop sailing races during the day, but Exuma came alive Friday night for cultural performances, drawing large crowds of enthusiastic Bahamians and guests.

From Shaad Collie and the VIPs to Bahamian performer Lady E.

This is the first family island Regatta since the start of the global pandemic.

Officials say the event should be a significant boost to the economy, as hotels and rental car companies are booked.

Deputy Prime Minister and area Member of Parliament Chester Cooper says Exuma has a record of successful Regattas.

Minister responsible for Regattas, Clay Sweeting calling the event a success.

He says the plan is to repeat the Exuma Regatta experience on other family islands.

And what would a regatta be, without junkanoo?
