Plan in Place Ahead of 2025 Service Suspension, Min. Says

Virgin Atlantic will end its Bahamas flights on February 23, 2025, as part of a network review that prioritizes other Caribbean destinations and South Africa. Virgin had previously increased flights due to high demand for the Bahamas, but Tourism Minister Chester Cooper explained the change.

“They made the decision based on internal reasons. I wouldn’t want to go into it publicly—perhaps speak with them directly. It had nothing to do with The Bahamas as a destination but was more personal business decisions based on internal matters for Virgin.”

Cooper emphasized the importance of the partnership with Virgin Atlantic, noting the significance of London Heathrow as a key gateway to European and Asian markets.

“We have consistently engaged with them about increasing capacity, and frankly, we hope that in due course we will see some additions to their fleet. Therefore, we anticipate having even better quality service. We are actively working to make that happen.”
