NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Lotus, the country’s first payment and loyalty app for merchants and consumers, launched on Monday, ushering in a new era of financial accessibility and ease of doing business in The Bahamas.

Developed by Aliv Creates, Lotus represents the evolution of Aliv’s rewards program, The List, and its integration with SunCash, a leading fintech innovator and digital wallet provider. The groundbreaking app seamlessly connects consumers and merchants on one user-friendly payment and loyalty platform which is compatible with the SandDollar, the digital Bahamian dollar from the Central Bank of The Bahamas.

The inability to conduct digital financial transactions is a major challenge for many people and businesses in The Bahamas that are unable to access or have limited access to traditional banking services. The ability to easily sign up and use Lotus without a bank account represents an important transition in our path to sustainable economic development, especially in the Family Islands.

Lotus is billed as a breakthrough, cost effective tool for business growth. Turnkey signup enables business owners to quickly begin collecting digital payments at lower fees without the need for a bank account. Through targeted, location-based promotions and a built-in rewards platform, the app provides participating businesses with marketing tools that allow them to reach new customers and reward their existing ones.

Consumers signed to any telecommunications service provider can use Lotus and enjoy the flexibility of having eight ways to easily and safely pay, including SandDollar, digital wallet, SmartPay, Facepay, Remote Pay, and with QR code dollars, vouchers and credit or debit cards. Making purchases with merchants in the app can gain reward points that can be used to save money on future purchases from any merchants in the app.

Chief innovator at Aliv Creates, Gravette Brown, noted that the benefits go far beyond saving time and money. Aliv Creates values the use of technology to promote innovation and digital

inclusion in The Bahamas. Inclusivity is at the core of the company’s efforts to provide smart, efficient and trusted solutions to both businesses and consumers across the country.

“We believe that Lotus is for the people,” said Brown. “It is designed to be a solution that can help to make the tasks we do every day easier and faster. We recognize that Lotus can help those with diverse needs who are often overlooked in our society, including people without commercial bank access in the Family Islands, the elderly, the differently abled, and our immigrant population. Everyone residing in The Bahamas deserves to have access to funds where and when they need them and to participate in the digital economy.”
