NASSAU , BAHAMAS – After concerns during advance polling, Tuesday’s general election process appeared far smoother across Central New Providence, with many voters commending the organization, quick flow and peaceful atmosphere at polling stations.

Early morning lines formed outside polling stations across Central New Providence.

Voters waited to cast their ballots and help decide who will form the country’s next government.

Despite long lines at some locations early in the day, many voters told Our News the process moved quickly and efficiently, a sharp contrast to some of the issues seen during advance polling.

One voter told us he arrived just after 5:30 this morning, becoming second in line and first in his polling division.

“5:30, yes, I waited until 8 o’clock, and I was the first person in my polling division.”

“It was actually pretty smooth. I mean, you know, I waited until the polls opened at 8 o’clock and ten minutes I was out of there.”

Other voters said the entire experience took less than 35 minutes, adding that Tuesday’s process was a major improvement from what many expected following advance polling day.

“Well for me it was a very smooth process I think the whole time from when I get there to when I left would’ve maybe taken me 30/35 mins. So in my view it was a big difference compared to what was circulating about the advanced polls.”

“I mean it looking like it’s a good process and everything is going well and look like everyone just doing the right thing”

Throughout the day, law enforcement officers and election officials were seen directing traffic, assisting voters and ensuring rules were followed inside and outside polling stations.

We also spoke with a number of candidates who commended the Parliamentary Registration Department for today’s coordination.

FNM candidate for Englerston Heather McDonald, praised both election officials and police for helping maintain a smooth and peaceful process.

“I must commend the Department of the Parliamentary Registry. It’s been a very smooth process all morning. Law enforcement has been doing a great job. I’m happy to see how everything has been transpiring so far. It’s been very peaceful. Persons have been simply coming in to vote and leaving. We had no hiccups, no anything. We’re all here ready to do what we do as Bahamians and let our voices be heard.”

PLP candidate for Garden Hills Mario Bowleg also noted the difference from advance polling, saying Tuesday’s flow was far more efficient.

I think the voters are heading to the process and they’re making life easy for all of us. And so we just want this to be a quick, smooth day.”

While the day remained busy, Coalition of Independents candidate for Englerston Faith Percentie, said election officials continued to handle the process professionally.
